ERIE, Pa. – The No. 22 Penn State Behrend women's soccer team will travel to Dallas, Pennsylvania, and the campus of Misericordia University to take on the Ithaca Bombers (13-2-4) in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday.
The Lions (18-2) are making their 13th appearance in the tournament, earning the automatic bid and winning their 17th Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) after defeating Pitt-Greensburg 4-0 on Saturday.
Ithaca prevailed over No. 11 William Smith, 3-2, in penalty kicks to win the Liberty League's automatic bid. It marks the second conference championship in three years for the Bombers.
The hosts, No. 6 Misericordia (17-1-2), will face Grove City (13-3-3) in the first game with the winners of each match facing off Sunday.
Behrend and Ithaca are squaring off for the second time in the NCAA First Round. The Bombers defeated the Lions 3-0 back in 2013. Behrend has a long history with Grove City, recently earning a 2-1 win this season, while never facing Misericordia.
