Ragen, Lawrence Break Records at Fredonia

FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team moved into sixth place out of nine teams with 201 points after the second day of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invite on Saturday.

After breaking the program record in the 50 free on the first day, Rachael Ragen shattered the 100 free record.  She set the time in the preliminaries (53.63) before clocking in at 54.17 in the finals for second place.  In the same event, Hilary MacManus finished seventh in 58.81.

Anne Lawrence joined Ragen in breaking program records. She swam 2:20.12 in the 200 butterfly and took sixth place for the Lions.

Julie Cook had the second-highest individual finish for Behrend on the day. She took fourth place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.99.

MaryEllen Spooner, Cook, Lawrence and Ragen joined forces to take third in the 400 medley relay. They took six seconds of their season best for a time of 4:13.55

The Lions added two more six-place finishes on the day. Meghan Stefanko touched in 1:03.93 in the 100 backstroke and then swam a leg on the 200 free relay that took sixth with a time of 1:45.74. Other teammates included MacManus, Cook and Katie Van Epps.

Behrend competes in the final day of the Blue Devil Invite tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m.
