Lions Fall to Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team dropped a 100-149 decision to Westminster in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Rachael Ragen was a triple winner, capturing two individual events and swimming a leg on the 400 free relay team that was victorious. Ragen won the 200 free with a time of 2:01.32, six seconds faster than the second-place opponent.  She also won the 100 butterfly (1:01.40) before joining Anne Lawrence, Hilary MacManus and Katie Van Epps in the relay to win with a time of 4:00.82.

Julie Cook, Lawrence and MacManus were also individual winners for the Lions. Cook and Julia Pfund posted first and second place, respectively in the 200 breaststroke. Cook clocked in at 2:41.91 and Pfund registered a time of 2:57.31.

Lawrence took first place in the 500 free (5:56.30), while MacManus led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM. Her time was good for the top spot in 2:30.57 with MaryEllen Spooner taking second (2:32.87) and Brittany Tanilli took third (2:41.77).

Meghan Stefanko collected two second-place finishes on the day. She was No. 2 in the 100 butterfly behind Ragen with a time 1:08.28 and in the 200 backstroke she touched in 2:27.08 to be the top Behrend swimmer in this event.

The Lions take a month off in between semesters and return to action on Jan. 16 at Penn State Altoona.
