Women's Swimming and Diving Handles Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team won six out of the first seven events to go on and post a 91-54 win over Pitt-Bradford in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night at the Junker Center.

In the total team effort, MaryEllen Spooner, Julia Pfund, Anne Lawrence and Meghan Stefanko put the Lions ahead 11-4 after winning the 400 medley relay in 4:33.84. Rachael Regan competed in the distance events on the night, winning the 1000 free (11:18.25) and then posting the best time in her first attempt at the 500 free this season (5:37.01).

Even though Katie Van Epps took second in the 200 free, she posted a season-best time of 2:05.54 to earn four points. Julie Cook followed with a win in the 50 free (27.71) and Lawrence out swam Shannon Lynch of Pitt-Bradford for first in the 200 IM (2:28.48).

Lawrence picked up her second victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.22. Van Epps and Cook combined for 13 points in the 100 freestyle. Van Epps touched first in 59.21 and Cook was second in 1:01.32.

Spooner, who was on the winning relay team, won the 100 back in 1:05.76 and Stefanko was her lone competitor, coming in at 1:07.49.

In the 1m diving, Emily Frederick posted a score of 135.75 for six dives while registering a 143.05 in the 3-meter event.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Mt. Union. Meet time is 1 p.m.
