Lions Handle Altoona in AMCC Action
Katie Siffrinn and Anne Lawrence each won a pair of individual events to lead the Penn State Behrend women’s swimming and diving team past Penn State Altoona 87-64 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.
ERIE, Pa. – Katie Siffrinn (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) and Anne Lawrence (State College, PA/State College) each won a pair of individual events to lead the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team past Penn State Altoona 87-64 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.
Siffrinn posted the first individual win in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:30.46 and two events later touched first in the 50 free (26.31). Lawrence led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 2:17.30. Elizabeth Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) was second and Sarah Jelinek (Warren, PA/Warren) came in third.
Lawrence got her second victory in the 100 backstroke for the Lions, clocking in at 1:10.98. Jamie Boyle (Sarver, PA/Freeport) was less than two seconds behind Lawrence with a time of 1:12.34.
To kick off the meet, MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/West Springfield), Hilary MacManus (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk), Jesse Dunleavy (McMurry, PA/Peters Township) and Julie Cook (Warren, PA/Warren) used a time of 2:05.60 to win the 200 medley relay.
Dunleavy picked up the win for the Behrend in the 100 butterfly (1:12.44) and took second in the 500 free (5:55.12).
Both divers for the Lions, Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) and Emily Frederick (Russell, PA/Eisenhower), posted exhibition scores in the one-meter diving competition. Wade led with a 174.50 total and Frederick tallied a 118.95 score.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. Meet time is 1 p.m.
