Behrend Splits Tri-Meet; Lions Defeat Franciscan

BETHANY, WVa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team split a tri-meet on Saturday, defeating Franciscan 87-50 and falling to Bethany 73-58.

The Lions picked up the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win against the Barons, but fell short of the sweep in the meet with a 15-point loss to the Bisons in the first meet of the season.

MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/Springfield) won two individual events on the day to lead Behrend. She won the 100 and 200 backstrokes, followed by Emily Spicher (Falls Creek, PA/DuBois) in second. Spooner touched in 1:06.80 in the 100 and 2:24.93 in the 200. Spooner also took third in the 50 free (27.70).

Sophomore Megan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) dominated the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, placing first in both. In the one-meter, she earned a score of 202.50 and in the third-meter she earned a winning score of 192.50.

Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) was the top finisher for Behrend in three events. She placed second in the 100 free (1:01.70), third in the 100 and 200 butterfly with times of 1:10.43 and 2:43.11, respectively.

Alex Isaacson (Wiliamsport, PA/Williamsport) came in second in the 100 (1:23.22) and the 200 breaststroke (2:57.07), while freshman Georgie Hatch (Middletown, MD/Middletown) tallied third in the 500 free (6:35.99) and fourth in the 200 free (2:22.92).

Out of the two relays, the opening event consisting of Spicher, Rachel Skaluba (Sparta, NJ/Sparta), Sarah Jelinek (Warren, PA/Warren) and Meagan Daily (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) gathered a first-place finish in a time of 2:13.09 in the 200 medley relay.

Spooner, Daily, Hatch and Rosato swam to a second place in the closing 200 free relay (1:57.34)

The Lions return to action on Saturday, November 10 at Franciscan against Penn State Altoona.  Meet time is 1 p.m.
