Lions Defeat Pitt-Bradford on Senior Day

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team won 10 out of 16 events to defeat Pitt-Bradford 130-98 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon in the Junker Center Pool.

MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/Springfield), Alex Isaacson (Wiliamsport, PA/Williamsport) and  Meagan Daily (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) were triple winners on the day. The three swimmers along with Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) started the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay (4:36.11).

Spooner added two individual wins, first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.82) and the second in the 200 backstroke (2:25.41). Isaacson had the same wins but in the breaststroke. She had a winning time of 1:22.32 in the 100 and a time of 2:56.22 to capture the 200-yard event. Rachel Skaluba (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was second in both the breaststroke events for the Lions.

Daily dominated the butterfly events. She touched in 2:43.41 to win the 200 fly and then had a first-place time of 1:08.38 later in the 100.

In addition to the win in the 400 medley relay, Rosato led a 1-2-3 finish for Behrend in the 50 free. She won in 28.21, while Skaluba was second and Sarah Jelinek (Warren, PA/Warren) came in third. Rosato also was second in the 100 free to be the top performer for the Lions in that event.

Georgie Hatch (Middletown, MD/Middletown) led Behrend in the 200 free with a time of 2:14.68 and in the 500 free with a time of 6:15.87 for second in both events.

Diving the three-meter board twice during the meet, sophomore Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) posted a score of 181.95 and 290.80. Her second score was an NCAA qualifying mark.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Mt. Union. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
