Women's Swimming & Diving Leads AMCC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team is in first place out of five teams with 68 points after day one of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships held at Grove City.

The Lions won both relays swam on the night, while Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) repeated as the three-meter diving champion. Wade earned a score of 400.40 to win the first out of two diving events at the championships.

MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/Springfield), who broke the team record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.08 in the preliminaries of the 400 medley relay, helped Behrend win the event in the finals. Spooner, Alex Isaacson (Wiliamsport, PA/Williamsport), Meagan Daily (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) and Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) posted a winning time of 4:26.07.

Spooner, Daily, Rosato and Georgie Hatch (Middletown, MD/Middletown) made up the foursome that started the finals with first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.24.

In individual events, Spooner was the top swimmer for the Lions in the 50 free. She claimed second place with a time of 26.00. Isaacson also took second in the 200 IM. The freshman clocked in at 2:27.07.

Hatch swam the 500 free for Behrend, placing fourth in the AMCC with a time of 5:53.49.

The Lions return to action tomorrow for day two of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
