Women's Swimming and Diving Edged By Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster swimming and diving team edged Penn State Behrend with a 158-121 decision in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and diver Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) won two individual events on the day. Pietropola was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.14) and the 200 breaststroke (2:35.92). She also swam on the winning 400 free relay along with Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) and Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) in a time of 3:58.72.

Cotton beat three other divers for first on the one-meter board with a score of 200.95, before winning the three-meter board (184.04).

In addition to the relay win, Daghir posted the top time in the 50 freestyle. She touched first in 26.00.

In the 100 backstroke, Lowery was the top finisher for the Lions and third overall with a time of 1:04.39. She also led the pack in the 100 butterfly. She hit the wall in 1:03.93, while Kristin Owens was second in 1:11.77 and Lauren Rosato took third (1:17.53).

In the next event, Owens claimed first in the 200 IM in 2:32.97. Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) was second with a time of 2:39.28 and Natalie Klingler (Pleasantville, PA/Titusville) completed the 1-2-3 finish in 2:40.84.

Isaacson also led Behrend in the 200 backstroke. Her time of 2:35.38 was good for third place.

Lowery, Pietropola, Owens and Daghir put together a time of 2:00.20 in the 200 medley relay for second place.  

The Lions return to action on Saturday with their home opener against Allegheny, beginning at 1 p.m.
