Allegheny Gets Past Women's Swimming and Diving

ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team posted a 193-92 decision over Penn State Behrend in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Junker Center.

Freshman Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum), Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) and Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) started off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.03.

Lowery went on to take second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.42) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:02.67). Pietropola won a pair of events for the Lions. She swam a 1:10.80 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:33.83 in the 200 breaststroke for first place.

Daghir tallied the other first-place finish for Behrend. She won the 50 freestyle in 25.70. She then finished third in the 100 free (1:00.02) for the Lions top time. Schneider was third in the 200 backstroke (2:32.58), while Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) was third in the 200 butterfly (2:33.29).

Sophomore Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) had the fastest Behrend time in the 400 IM (5:31.98) to place third.

In the final 400 free relay, Lowery, Pietropola, Daghir and Rayni Modecki (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) were second with a time of 3:57.54.

Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) accounted for the diving points for Behrend. She came in second in both one-meter diving events. Her first set of scores were 209.45 and on the second portion she earned a 158.05.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Chatham. Meet time is 1 p.m.
