Lions Drop Close Decision at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Chatham women's swimming and diving team edged Penn State Behrend 147-128 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars won nine events, while the Lions took first in seven to fall by just 21 points. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) won three individual events for Behrend, while Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) tallied two wins beginning with the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:53.42.

Watterson also touched first in the other distance event, posting a winning time of 5:50.06 in the 500 freestyle.

Lowery had her first win in the 100 backstroke (1:04.77), before collecting the victory in the 200 butterfly (2:33.23) and then the 200 IM (2:20.81). Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) tallied the final first place with a time of 1:11.32 in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore was also second in the 200 IM (2:21.04).

Lowery, Pietropola, Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) and Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) finished with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome had a winning time of 1:48.96.

Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell), Pietropola, Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Daghir were three second short of first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.22.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Baldwin Wallace. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
