Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team won its first dual-meet with a 115-105 decision over Baldwin Wallace in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The 400 freestyle relay consisting of Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley), Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) won the final event in 3:56.09, nearly five seconds faster than second for 11 points to give them the edge over the Yellow Jackets.  

The Lions finished the meet with a win and opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. Lowery, Pietropola, Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) posted a time of 4:23.35 for first place.

Owens, Lowery, and Pietropola went on to win individual races for Behrend. Lowery touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:03.81), while Owens won the 400 IM (5:17.29) and Pietropola was the winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66). Owens also took second in the 100 butterfly, but was first on the team with a time of 1:10.97.

Daghir tallied two second-place finishes on the day. She paced the Lions in the 100 freestyle (58.18) and then was behind Pietropola in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.31.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) finished second in the 1650 freestyle, before earning runner up in the 500 freestyle (5:51.32).

In the 50 free, Schneider had the top Behrend time in 28.30 for second place.  Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) earned points in the 400 IM behind Owens for second place (5:27.66).

In both one-meter diving events, Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) registered a score of 154.15 and 182.30 the second time to win the pair.

The Lions return to action on next Tuesday, November 25 at Cabrini. Meet time is 3:30 p.m.
