Women's Swimming Wins Second Straight; Lions Down Defending AMCC Champions

RADNOR, Pa. – With a 10-point lead and just two events left, the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team managed to hold off Cabrini 145-112 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference dual-meet action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions posted their second straight win of the season to defeat the defending AMCC Champions with nine first-place decisions. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) each posted two individual wins for Behrend.

Lowery led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:03.83. Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) was second (1:08.44) and Rayni Modecki (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) was third (1:13.67). Lowery also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.44.

Owens beat two Cabrini swimmers to win the 200 butterfly (2:33.94), before capturing the 200 IM (2:30.53). The Lions also took second and third in this event thanks to Alex Isaascson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) and Natalie Klingler (Pleasantville, PA/Titusville), respectively.

Pietropola earned her first win in the 100 breaststroke, posting a first-place time of 1:10.28. The sophomore then won the 200 breaststroke (2:35.71) and Klingler finished in second for the Lions.

Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) and Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) were 1-2 in the 50 freestyle. Daghir led with 26.18 and Rosato was second in 28.17.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) tallied two second-place finishes in the 1000 (11:55.49) and 500 (5:50.45) freestyle.

The Lions won both relays, but it was the final 200 freestyle relay that gave Behrend the edge. The Lions won first and third. The first-place team consisted of Pietropola, Daghir, Rosato and Lowery with a time of 1:46.27.

Schneider, Lowery, Pietropola and Daghir were the winning foursome to start the meet in the 200 medley relay (1:58.91).

Behrend returns to action on Friday, December 5 at the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational.
