Pietropola Wins 200 IM; Breaks School Record at Fredonia Invitational

FREDONIA, NY – Sophomore Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) broke the school record in the 200 IM twice in one night to lead the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team on the first day of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational Friday night.

Pietropola set the new mark in the 200 IM in the preliminaries and then erased that with a new record of 2:11.84 to finish first-place overall and help the Lions sit in sixth place with 75 points.  In the same event, Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) placed fourth (2:14.63) while Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) dropped 9.24 seconds for a season-best time of 2:25.32.

In the 50 freestyle, Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) was seventh after the preliminaries and took eighth overall to lead Behrend with a time of 25.52.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) was the top point getter for the Lions in the 1650 freestyle. She finished 10th overall with a time of 19:33.09 for seven points.

Isaacson and Watterson teamed with Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) and Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) for eighth place in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 9:11.28.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Fredonia Invitational. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
