Pietropola Sets Another Record at Fredonia Invitational

FREDONIA, NY – Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) set another school record, this time in the 100 breaststroke to lead the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team on day two of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational Saturday.

The sophomore broke a two-year old school record with a time of 1:07.86 in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke. She finished fourth place overall in 1:09.04 in the finals.

As a team, the Lions are in sixth place with a score of 164 after two days of competition. Wheeling Jesuit sits on top with 429 points and Oberlin is second (422.5).

Pietropola, Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic), Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) placed sixth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.67 to start the day in the first session.

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) led Behrend in the 200 butterfly. She took 13th with a time of 2:29.99, while Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) was 18th (2:28.56).

In the 200 backstroke, Schneider grabbed the last spot in the finals for 16th place in 2:24.07. Daghir did the same thing in the 100 freestyle, taking 16th overall and first on the team with a time of 57.96.

Schneider, Pietropola, Lowery and Daghir combined for sixth place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:19.30 to finish the day.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the Fredonia Invitational. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
