W&J Too Much For Lions

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team took first place in seven events against Washington & Jefferson, but fell 170-115 in non-conference action on Saturday at the Junker Center.

Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) won two individual events and swam on two winning relays for the Lions. She won the 100 breaststroke with a top time of 1:11.07 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.65. The sophomore also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) led Behrend in the 100 backstroke. The newcomer touched in a winning time of 1:04.24. She was also second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.32).

Along with Pietropola, Lowery joined Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Emma Daghir (St. Mary's PA/Elk County Catholic) in the two relay victories. The foursome won the 200 medley relay in 1:58.74, before earning a time of 1:47.22 in the 200 free relay to end the meet.

Daghir was also an individual winner. She had the fastest time in the 50 free with 26.26.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton La-Salle) competed in three individual events, leading Behrend in each one. She first earned third place in the 1650 freestyle (20.31.79) and then was second in the 500 freestyle (5:51.73). Lastly, Watterson led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 200 IM. She had a winning time of 2:33.53 followed by Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) in second (2:34.07), Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) in third (2:37.93) and Natalie Klingler (Pleasantville, PA/Titusville) in fourth (2:38.77).

In the 200 butterfly, Owens had the best Behrend time in 2:40.10 for third. Once again, freshman Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) competed for the Lions on the one-meter diving board. She placed third on the one-meter board, posting a score of 195.50 and 159.45 on the second session.

Behrend returns to action against Pitt-Bradford on Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m.
