Lions Turn Back Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team picked up their first dual-meet win of the New Year with a 101-66 victory against Pitt-Bradford in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night.

The Lions were able to spread the wealth over the course of the meet, beginning with the opening 400 medley relay consisting of Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum), Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic), Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell). The relay team posted a winning time of 4:29.25.

Junior Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) beat teammate Hanna Simon (Erie, PA/Central Tech) for the top time in the 1000 freestyle (13:24.90), before Daghir won the 50 freestyle in 25.81.

Behrend went 1-2-3 in the 400 IM, led by Owens with a time of 5:24.96. Natalie Klingler (Pleasantville, PA/Titusville) finished second (5:30.23) and Isaacson was narrowly in third (5:30.51) after just swimming the 1000 free. Later in the meet, Klingler won the 500 freestyle in 6:18.86.

After the 400 IM, Owens then was second in the 100 butterfly for the Lions (1:10.62) and Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) took third (1:13.28). Rosato also claimed second in the 200 freestyle 2:13.24.

Simon came back to win the 100 freestyle in 1:10.05 while Paige Lorson (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) touched in 1:13.48 for second in the event.

In the 100 backstroke, Schneider was the top point getter for Behrend taking second in 1:10.73 followed by Rayni Modecki (Carnegie, PA/Chartiers Valley) in third (1:13.47).

Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) represented all divers tonight. She first tallied a 161.10 for five dives and then posted a score of 181.65 for six dives on the second chance at the one-meter board.

The Lions return to the pool tomorrow at St. Vincent. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
