Pietropola, Cotton Winners Against St. Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The St. Vincent women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn State Behrend 161-100 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Mia Pietropola (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and diver Rachel Cotton (Media, PA/Penncrest) each won two individuial events for the Lions. Pietropola won the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM with times of 2:34.36 and 2:19.87, respectively.

Cotton won each of the one-meter diving events. In the first five dives, she scored 159.70 and in the next six dives she tallied a 198.15.

Emma Daghir (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) was also an individual winner for Behrend. She captured the 100 breaststroke (1:14.65) and then led the Lions in the 50 free with a third-place finish (26.70).

Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) came in third on two events. First, she clocked in at 1:10.53 in the 100 backstroke and then 2:30.51 in the 200 backstroke for first on the team.

In the 1000 freestyle, Behrend had the second-best swimmer in Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte). She tallied a time of 11:33.61 for second and less than a second shy of first place.

Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) was the Lions' only competitor in the 100 butterfly and she took third place with a time of 1:14.97.

Daghir, Pietropola, Schneider and Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) were the winning relay team in the 200 yard freestyle. The time of 1:52.68 was good enough for first.

Behrend returns to action on Feb. 11-14 at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships hosted by Grove City.
