Women's Swimming and Diving Topples Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team won 10 event en route to a 131-78 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) foe Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions picked up their first dual-meet win of the season thanks to three swimmers winning four times on the day. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) won three individuals events and swam on a winning relay, while Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) won two individual events and a pair of relays.

Lowery first swam on the opening 200 medley relay that won in a time of 2:03.35. She was joined by Schneider, Horn and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois). The following event, the 200 free, Lowery touched first in 2:06.36. She also won the 100 butterfly (1:06.19) and 200 IM (2:20.75).

Schneider was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:10.59 and then again in the 200 yard event of the same style in 2:30.72. Her second winning relay of the day was the 200 free along with Horn, Wyckoff and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) in 1:53.14.

Horn placed first in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. She touched in 1:19.15 in the 100 breaststroke and then posted the fastest time of 58.98 in the freestyle. Wyckoff was runner up in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.16, after she earned first in the 50 free (28.03).

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) was the final winner on the day for Behrend. She swam 6:11.20 for first in the 500 free.

The Lions return to action in two weeks at Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational.
