Women's Swimming and Diving Place Eighth at Blue Devil Invite

FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team finished in eighth place with 217 points on the final day of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational on Sunday.

John Carroll edged out Allegheny for first-place overall with 697 points to second-place 614 points. Oberlin was three points out from second to finish third with 611.

Beginning the last day, Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell), Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), Gwen Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) swam to a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.59. The same four placed seventh in the 400 free relay in 3:50.79.

Individually, Lowery was fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:59.70) and Wyckoff tallied a 14th place in 2:04.69. Lowery was also the Lion's top finisher in the 100 butterfly. She touched in 1:02.51 for eighth place.

Horn and Schneider paced Behrend in the 100 backstroke. Horn was in the "A" final and finished in 1:03.87 for seventh, while Schneider was 14th overall (1:06.29).

Freshman Jessica Rettger (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area) tallied a score of 165.05 for 11th place on the one-meter diving board competition.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 16 at Washington & Jefferson. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
