Women's Swimming and Diving Competes at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson women's swimming and diving team posted a 134-91 victory over Penn State Behrend in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions had a strong start to the New Year thanks in part to Anna Rose Watterson (Baldin, PA/Seton-La Salle) winning two individual events. She placed first the 500 yard freestyle (6:13.94) and also in the 400 IM (5:26.73). Watterson then took second in the 1650 freestyle in 20:07.42.

In the 200 events, Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:31.13, while Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:57.71

Also individually winning, Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) took first in 100 butterfly in 1:05.82 and followed that with second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.55).

In the 100 backstroke, Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:08.06). The sophomore then competed in the 100 freestyle, placing third (1:02.35).

Freshman Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) was third in the 50 freestyle, yet hundredths of seconds behind first and runner up with a time of 26.90.

For the relays of the day, Horn, Wyckoff, Owens and Lowery were second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.05, five seconds behind the Presidents.

In the final relay, Lowery, Wyckoff, Horn and Schneider had the second-best time in 4:00.44 in the final 400 freestyle relay.

Behrend returns to action on Friday, January 29 at Pitt-Bradford. Meet time is 5 p.m.
