Women's Swimming and Diving Remain On Top

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team claimed six of the seven events on day two of the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships at Grove City College on Friday.

The Lions won six AMCC titles, five individual and one relay victory to tally175 points in the first two days of the meet. Cabrini is in second with 126 points and Altoona is third with 96. Bradford sits fourth (81) and Franciscan is fifth (41).

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was the first women's swimmer for Behrend to set a new AMCC open, meet and team record during the championships. She won the 200 free with a record-setting time of 1:57.95. Lowery's time was good for fourth overall and broke the same records she set at last year's meet. Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) came in third in the AMCC and 11th overall in the 200 free (2:02.57)

Lowery won her second title of the night in the 100 butterfly. She was also seventh overall with a winning time of 1:01.66.

Behrend opened the second-day finals with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), Lowery, Wyckoff, and Kristen Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) combined for a time of 1:56.00 for the first AMCC title of the night.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) tallied her first AMCC crown in her career in the 400 IM. The junior was 16th overall and first in the conference with a time of 5:15.21.

The fourth individual champion for the Lions was Horn in the 100 breaststroke. She had a top time of 1:14.58 to also earn her 15th overall.

Junior Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) won her first gold medal for an individual event in the 100 backstroke. She had the top AMCC time of 1:05.64 and finished 12th overall.

Watterson, Owens, Schneider and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) were a close second in the AMCC to Cabrini in the final 800 free relay with a time of 8:52.10 for seventh overall.

The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final day of the championships. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
