Lowery Paces Women's Swimming Against Malone

ERIE, Pa. – Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had a pair of wins and runner-up finishes for the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team loss to Malone 154-79 in non-conference action on Friday night.

Lowery won the 100 butterfly (1:04.69) and the 100 freestyle (56.82), before placing second in the 200 IM (2:18.77) by exactly one second of the winner. She also swam on the second-place 200 freestyle relay along with Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico). The foursome touched in 1:45.00 to finish just shy of first (1:44.17).

Horn went on to win the 50 backstroke in the seventh event of the night (29.62) and then led the Lions in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.45 for third overall.

Individually, Wyckoff tallied two second-place finishes for Behrend. She led the way in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.83 and then again in the 50 free (26.33).

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon), Horn, Maldonado and Wyckoff made up the 200 medley relay that placed second in 2:00.67.

Witmer was close behind Lowery in the 100 butterfly with a runner-up time of 1:05.41. She was also second but first on the team in the 100 backstroke (1:06.65).

Devon van Rensburg had the top time for the Lions in the 50 breaststroke, clocking in at 36.79 for third.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for senior day against St. Vincent. Meet time is 1 p.m.
