Three Lions Take Conference Athlete of the Week Honors
A trio of Penn State Behrend student-athletes earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athlete of the Week honors.
ERIE, Pa. – A trio of Penn State Behrend student-athletes earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athlete of the Week honors.
For the second straight week, Kallie Smith (Oil City, PA/Oil City) garnered Women's Swimmer of the Week after setting two personal records to go along with four individual event wins in a 2-0 week for Behrend. Smith touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.80) and in the 500 freestyle (5:38.54) at Fredonia. She was once again victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.62) and the 200 breaststroke (2:39.59) and swam on the winning 400 medley relay vs. Nazareth.
Sophomore Nora Blasch (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) was named Women's Diver of the Week, registering first with a score of 155.40 on the one-meter board, before winning the three-meter board with a total of 144.83 vs. Fredonia. Against Nazareth, Blasch posted a score of 164.30 on the three-meter board and 185.25 on the one-meter board.
Men's volleyball junior Lewis Rhodes (Reston, VA/South Lakes) notched AMCC Defensive Player of the Week. Rhodes averaged 1.64 blocks per set, knocking down a total of 23, including 16 assisted and seven solo blocks in three matches. He added 19 kills, five digs and one ace this past week.
The swimming and diving team is at home this Saturday against Alfred St. and Wheeling at 1 p.m., while the men's volleyball team is in the Junker Center this Tuesday vs. Hiram at 7 p.m.
