Women's Tennis Downs Pitt-Bradford in AMCC Action

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team remains undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action with a 7-2 over Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday evening.

The Lions (5-4, 4-0 AMCC) improved to 4-0 in conference play, only dropping two games to the Panthers (4-3, 3-2 AMCC). Four freshman earned the first two points of the match, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Monica Gokhberg (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) were 8-4 winners in the top spot, while Patra Sangpoompong (Bangkok, Thailand/Erie First Christian Academy)  and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) put Behrend ahead 2-1 in the match with an 8-2 victory.

Gokhberg was winning 4-1 at No. 1 singles before her opponent retired due to an injury. Sangpoompong and C. Miller were also double winners, while M. Miller and Rachel Harris (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) each won the first game 6-1 and lost the second before winning the third in a tiebreaker situation at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Mercyhurst. The match starts at 3:30 p.m.
