Women's Tennis Shuts Out D'Youville

ERIE, Pa. – Four Penn State Behrend women's tennis players won twice to help the Lions defeat D'Youville 9-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday evening at the Westwood Racquet Club.

The opening three doubles matches belonged to Behrend. Monica Gokhberg (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) posted an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Patra Sangpoompong (Bangkok, Thailand/Erie First Christian Academy) and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) tallied the same score at the No. 2 spot.

All four of those players also won their singles match. Gokhberg led the top singles game with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. It took Sangpoompong three sets to win at No. 2 singles (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).

C. Miller and M. Miller registered the same decision at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively, by a scores of 6-1, 6-1. Rachel Harris (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) and Casey Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) swept their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Harris won at fifth singles and Smith tallied the win at sixth singles.

Catharine Haglund (Chevy Chase, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) and Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) collected the third doubles point, blanking Kylie Bett and Knicia King, 8-0.

The Lions return to action tomorrow against Pitt-Greensburg. The match starts at 6 p.m.
