Women's Tennis Edges Franciscan

ERIE, Pa. – Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) defeated Caroline Wilson in three sets at No. 4 singles to give the Penn State Behrend women's tennis team a 5-4 win over Franciscan in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

After falling 2-1 in doubles competition and then winning three out of five singles matches, it came down to Millers match. The sophomore captured the first set 7-6, before falling 6-3 in the second to force a third set. Miller pulled out a 6-2 final-set win to help the Lions remain undefeated in conference play.

Alexander Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) were the only double winners for the Lions, posting an 8-2 victory.

Laffey and Czerwinski were also singles winners. Czerwinski defeated Clarie Haddad in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) and Laffey won 6-3, 7-5 at the top spot.

Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) posted the second singles win of the day with a 6-2, 7-6 victory at No. 4.

Behrend returns on Wednesday at Fredonia St.  The match begins at 4 p.m.
