Lions Fall Short at Fredonia State

FREDONIA, NY - The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team won two doubles and two singles games, but the Lions fell to Fredonia State 5-4 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) were double winners for Behrend (2-1). They posted the first doubles win in the top spot with a close 8-6 decision. 

Czerwinski had an exciting three-set victory at No. 2 singles. She won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Laffey, leading the Lions at No. 1 singles, earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Alison Phillips.

Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) were the other duo to win with a score of 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Behrend returns to action on Friday at Washington and Jefferson. Match begins at 4 p.m.
