Lions Defeat Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles then went on to win four out of six singles game to post a 6-3 win over Washington & Jefferson in non-conference action on Friday.

All three doubles matches were close with Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski winning by two set points the No. 1 spot, and Colleen Miller (Lousivlle, OH/Louisville) and Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) earning a three-point win (8-5) at No. 3 doubles.

The Lions (3-1) won at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles to collect the victory. Laffey and Czerwinski each remained undefeated in singles play this season with wins at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Laffey took Courtney Brennan into three sets, while Czerwinski won 6-3 and 6-2.

Miller posted a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles, and Kramer's three-set win at No. 6 was an insurance win for Behrend.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Houghton.
