Women's Tennis Downs Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team won all six singles games and two out of three doubles to earn an 8-1 win over Houghton in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Lions (4-1) finish the weekend 2-0 with a pair of wins on the road.

The duos of Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), and Colleen Miller (Lousivlle, OH/Louisville) and Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) were victorious in doubles action.

Laffey went on to blank her opponent (6-0, 6-0) at first singles and Czerwinski only gave up two set points to win 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.

Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) and C. Miller had no trouble in their singles matches. M. Miller won 6-3, 6-1 against Jenny Iacucci in the third spot and C. Miller earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth singles.

Schaffer, playing in the fifth spot for singles, earned a 6-0, 6-2 win. Julie Lester (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) registered her first collegiate win at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-2).

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at home against Pitt-Bradford, beginning at 4 p.m.
