Lions Breeze Past La Roche

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team blanked the defending Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Champions with a 9-0 victory this afternoon at the Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (6-1, 4-0 AMCC) only lost 13 game points to the Redhawks (0-2, 0-2 AMCC) to avenge a one-point loss to La Roche in the title match at last year's conference championship.

Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) was one of five Behrend players to earn a pair of wins. Schaffer was the only Lion to not give up a singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles over Julianna Sacco.  Schaffer teamed with Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) for an 8-1 win at the third spot.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville), and Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) posted 6-0, 6-1 decisions at No. 2, 3 and 6 singles, respectively.

Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) had two wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. She defeated Victoria Shields 6-1, 6-2, before joining Czerwinski for an 8-1 doubles decision.

M. Miller and Patra Sangpoompong (Bangkok, Thailand/Erie First Christian Academy) tallied the final doubles win (8-2) at the No. 2 spot.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Pitt-Greensburg. The match begins at 1 p.m. at the Behrend Courts.
