Women's Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep

EBENSBURG, Pa. – Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) were double winners to lead the Penn State Behrend women's tennis team past Mt. Aloysius 6-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The undefeated duo in doubles were 8-2 winners at No. 1 to keep their streak alive and help the Lions (9-2, 7-0 AMCC) take down the Mounties. The next two doubles games belonged to Mt. Aloysius to give them a temporary 2-1 lead.

At No. 1 singles, Laffey managed a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kate Morris. Czerwinski was able to post a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, defeating Cheyenne Feathers.

Behrend won the third, fourth and fifth singles en route to the Lions seventh conference victory.

Patra Sangpoompong (Bangkok, Thailand/Erie Christian Academy) had a close first set, but winning 7-5 and then 6-2 at the third spot. Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) secured the win with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 decisions, respectively.

Behrend returns to Saturday at the Goucher Tournament.
