Women's Tennis Drops Two in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team fell in a pair of non-conference matches in the off-season in Hilton Head, South Carolina on their spring break trip.

The Lions fell to Wittenberg 6-3 and Ohio Wesleyan 7-2 in the nightcap.

Against the Tigers, Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) was a double winner for Behrend. She teamed with Julie Lester (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-4 victory.

She then earned the win at No. 4 singles with a 6-0 and 6-2 decision. Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was the other winner at No. 2 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Against Ohio Wesleyan, Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Lester each won their singles match. It took Laffey three sets to defeat her opponent at No. 1. She won 3-6, 6-3 and 7-6. Lester had a clean sweep at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

The Lions return to action on Friday against Bridgewater and Marietta.
