Women's Tennis Falls To W&J

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team split the singles competition and won two doubles games to edge Penn State Behrend 5-4 in non-conference action on Thursday.

The Presidents (4-0) escaped what could have been their first loss of the season. It was the difference in the one doubles match that gave W&J the edge, dropping the Lions to 3-2 on the season.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) won their singles matches for Behrend. Czerwinski had a three-set game at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

Laffey was successful at No. 2 singles, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Schaffer defeated Brianna Morrison at fifth singles 6-3, 6-0.

Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Celeste Bentley (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) were the lone doubles winners for the Lions in the second spot. The pair posted an 8-6 victory.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Thiel, beginning at 12 p.m.
