Lions Edge Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC Action

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team swept the doubles competition and won two singles games to defeat Pitt-Greensburg 5-4 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night.

The Lions (5-3, 4-1 AMCC) were finally on the winning end of a one-point match this season to pick up their fourth conference win.  

At No. 1 doubles, Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) only lost one set to earn an 8-1 victory. Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and teammate Celeste Bentley (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) posted an 8-3 win at No. 2, while Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsvile) took their opponents to extra sets, winning 9-7.

Laffey and Julie Lester (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) were the two who won their singles games. Laffey posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles and Lester was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the sixth spot.

Behrend returns to action on tomorrow against Penn State Altoona, beginning at 1 p.m.
