Lions Sweep D'Youville

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team completed its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) regular season with a 9-0 win over D'Youville on Wednesday night at Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (8-3, 7-1 AMCC) only surrendered nine set points, including just two in the doubles competition to secure the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. 

Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Celeste Bentley (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) blanked their opponents at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 victory. Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) were 8-1 winners at the top doubles spot, while Mackenzie Yoho (Ellwood City, PA/Lincoln) and Tori Panza (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 with an 8-1 victory.

All six singles games belonged to Behrend. Storm Schaffer (Pittsburgh, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) did not allow a point at the fifth spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Laffey and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) only allowed one point in two games at No. 1 and No.3 singles, respectively.

Czerwinski tallied a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles, while Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the fourth spot. Julie Lester recorded the final win at No. 6 singles due to default after claiming the first set, 6-0.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against St. Vincent for a make-up match, beginning at 4 p.m.
