ERIE, Pa. – The Franciscan women's tennis team won its first AMCC Championship with a 5-2 victory over Penn State Behrend on Sunday at the Westwood Racquet Club.

The match started off with three close doubles matches. The Barons came away with two wins, while Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) managed an extra set win, 9-7, over Alanna Murry and Claire Haddad at No. 1.

Heading into the singles competition, Franciscan only needed to win three games to claim the conference title. Czerwinski got the lone singles win for Behrend at the second spot, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Veazey.

The Barons won the fourth, fifth and sixth singles to abandon the final two singles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 for the AMCC Championship.
