Women's Tennis Defeats Houghton

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over non-conference opponent Houghton on Monday afternoon.

The Lions won all six singles and the No. 1 doubles match before being halted due to rain and not completing the final two doubles matches.

Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) were able to earn double wins for Behrend. Czerwinski posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles and Laffey followed in the No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

They teamed up to get the one doubles match, 8-2.

Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) picked up a 6-2, 6-4 decision at third singles, while Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) ended with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) had a close first set at No. 5 singles, winning 7-5 and then shutting out Courtney Grippo 6-0 in the second set. Julie Lester (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) defeated Tara Anderson, 6-2 and a close 7-5 to sweep the singles competition.
