FREDONIA, NY – Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) won at No. 1 doubles and then proceeded to earn singles wins to help the Penn State Behrend defeat Fredonia 8-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday.

The Lions (2-0) tallied their second straight win of the season with ease. Czerwinski and Laffey only gave up one match point at No. 1 doubles, posting an 8-1 score. Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) tallied the same score at No. 2 doubles for a 2-0 lead.

Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kat McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) picked up the third doubles victory, winning with a close 8-6 decision.

Czerwinski took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Laffey did not give up a match point for a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot. Cannella recorded her second win of the day with a three-set decision at No. 3 singles (6-7, 6-2, 7-6).

Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) collected the final singles wins for Behrend. M. Miller was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 5 and K. Miller earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the sixth spot.

The Lions will travel to Penn State Altoona on Friday. Match begins at 4:30 p.m.
