Women's Tennis Defeats Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team picked up their second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Penn State Altoona on Friday afternoon.

The Lions (3-0, 2-0 AMCC) took a 3-0 lead into the singles competition and then won all but two matches for the conference win.

Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) were double winners on the day. Laffey made No. 2 singles look easy with a 6-2, 6-0 decision. Miller posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles.

Oskana Omelchenko (Erie, PA/Central Tech) and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) were victorious at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Omelchenko defeated Elizabeth Lane 6-3, 6-1 and M. Miller earned a 6-2, 6-0 against Alyssa Decker.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Laffey were dynamic at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-1. Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) and C. Miller posted the same score at No. 2 doubles, while Kat McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) and Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 score.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Mt. Aloysius. Match begins at 11 a.m.
