Women's Tennis Keeps Rolling

CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team blanked Mt. Aloysius 9-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday morning.

The win marks the second conference match the Lions (4-0) did not give up a match point. Behrend started out with three straight doubles wins. Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) added an 8-3 decision at No. 2.

Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) shut out their opponents, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.

Laffey and Czerwinski also played singles. Czerwinski tallied a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 1. Laffey recorded a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, while Oskana Omelchenko (Erie, PA/Central Tech) followed at third singles with a 7-6, 6-2 victory.

The dominance continued into No. 4 singles for Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) with a 6-3, 6-3 score. Kat McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) joined in the winning, earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory and Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 decision.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Alfred. The match begins at 3 p.m.
