Women's Tennis Dominates La Roche

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team posted their fifth straight AMCC (Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference) win and third by a score of 9-0, this time defeating La Roche on Saturday evening.

The Lions (7-0, 5-0 AMCC) continue to dominate the conference and remain undefeated on the season with a perfect score.

Behrend started out with surrendering only 11 doubles points in the three matches for a 3-0 lead. Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) tallied an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) were 8-4 winners at the No. 2 spot.

Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) recorded a close 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles over Devin Stromberg and Kylie Banister.

Laffey and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 2 and 6 singles, respectively. Czerwinski, Cannella and Colleen Miller almost swept their opponents by giving up one set point. Czerwinski led at No. 1 singles, Canella won at No. 3 and Miller competed at No. 5.

Oksana Omelchenko (Erie, PA/Central Tech) got the final singles win at No. 4, posting a 6-2, 6-4 victory for the sweep.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday against Westminster. Match begins at 4 p.m.
