Laffey Wins Twice; Lions Fall to W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) won both singles and doubles for the Penn State Behrend women's tennis team, but the Lions fell to Washington & Jefferson 6-3 in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

The Lions (7-2) had a 2-1 lead after doubles action, but the Presidents were able to take five out of the six singles for the win.

Laffey collected a 4-6, 6-1 and 10-7 tiebreaker at No. 2 singles over Grace McCarthy for the only Behrend victory.

She also teamed with Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) for an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles over Courtney Brennan and McCarthy, while Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) were 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles against Brianna Morrison and Abby Palmer.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Pitt-Bradford. Match begins at 4 p.m.
