Women's Tennis Handles D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team recorded their fifth shut-out victory, posting a 9-0 win over D'Youville in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday afternoon.

The win marks the seventh straight time the Lions (9-2, 7-0 AMCC) have blanked the Spartans in conference play.

Behrend started the match, winning all three doubles matches. Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) won 8-2 in the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) did not give up a match point for an 8-0 decision.

Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) also won 8-0 but at No. 3 for a quick 3-0 lead in the match.

Kat McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) was the lone 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles, while three others posted scores of 6-0, 6-1. Laffey, C. Miller and Morgan Kramer (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) tallied those scores at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Czerwinski tallied a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles and Cannella registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the third spot.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Pitt-Greensburg at Westwood Racquet Club, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
