Grove City Slips Past Women's Tennis

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team suffered their second straight loss by one point, falling to Grove City 5-4 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions (9-4) won two doubles to take a lead heading into the six singles matches, but the Wolverines (7-5) came away with four wins to edge out Behrend.

Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) and Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) defeated Janine Jones and Leah Thomsen 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, while Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) earned an 8-4 decision at third doubles for a 2-1 advantage.

Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Malinda Miller (Champion, PA/Connellsville) were the two who picked up wins in singles action. Laffey, at No. 2, posted a 6-3, 6-2 score over Thomsen. Miller was playing at No. 6 singled and handed Melissa Karidis a 6-1, 6-1 loss.

Behrend returns to action a week from today against Houghton. Match begins at 3 p.m.
