Women's Tennis Handles Defiance

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team earned their second win over spring break with an 8-1 victory over Defiance on Tuesday in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Lions (13-5) had three double winners on the day. Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek), Oksana Omelchenko (Erie, PA/Central Tech) and Kat McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) won their doubles matches first.

Bentley teamed up with Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Omelchenko and McDonough won by default at the No. 3 spot.

Behrend won all the singles matches. Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) won in two tiebreaker sets 6-7 (7-3) and 6-3 and 11-9 at No. 2 singles.  Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was a 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 spot, while Colleen Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Omelchenko blanked their opponents in the first set before winning at No. 4 and 5 singles (6-0, 6-2; 6-0, 6-1).

At No. 3 singles, Bentley tallied a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles and McDonough recorded a win by default at the sixth spot.

The Lions return to action on Thursday against Olivet at 1 p.m.
