Women's Tennis Defeats Fredonia

ERIE, Pa. – After sweeping the doubles matches, the Penn State Behrend women's tennis team then picked up four of the six singles matches to defeat Fredonia State 7-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lions (2-0) earned their second straight win over the Blue Devils (1-1) and first home victory of the season. Three players recorded a pair of wins on the day, including with Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville).

Bentley and Miller blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, while Czwerwinski teamed with Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) for an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles.

Bentley and Miller dominated at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Bentley tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win and Miller registered a 6-1, 6-1 score for her second win of the day.

At No. 1 singles, Czerwinski earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory to remain undefeated on the season. Kat McDonough (Oakmont, PA/Oakland Catholic) won in a tiebreaker set at No. 3 singles. She won the first set 7-6 before falling 6-3 and then winning 10-7.

The No. 3 doubles win went to Bayleigh Adams (Manchester, NJ/Manchester) and Erica Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) by a score of 8-6.

Behrend returns to action on Friday against D'Youville at 5 p.m.
