Women's Tennis Sweeps D'Youville in AMCC Action

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State women's tennis team only gave up eight game points in the singles matches and four in doubles play to sweep D'Youville 9-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday at Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (3-0, 2-0 AMCC) remain undefeated this season and in the AMCC with the victory over the Spartans (1-1, 0-1 AMCC). Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek), Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Oksana Omelchenko (Erie, PA/Central Tech) posted 6-0, 6-0 decisions in singles competition.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) handed her opponent a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles, while Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot.

Kat McDonough (Oakmont, PA/Oakland Catholic) posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles for her lone win of the night.

At No. 2 doubles, Bentley and Miller did not give up a game point to blank their opponents 8-0. Czerwinski and Jacqueline Cannella managed an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and Erica Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) and Bayleigh Adams (Manchester, NJ/Manchester) earned an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Mt. Aloysius. Match time is 3:30 p.m. at Westwood Racquet Club.
