Women's Tennis Edges Altoona; Lions Remain Undefeated

ERIE, Pa. – Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst), Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) were double winners to help the Penn State Behrend women's tennis team edge Penn State Altoona 5-4 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Monday.

Starting with doubles play, Czerwinski and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) won at No. 1 by a score of 8-2. Bentley and Miller earned their fifth doubles win of the season at the No. 2 spot with an 8-3 decision. Altoona was able to take the No. 3 doubles match, 8-2.

Heading into singles with a 2-1 lead, Behrend only needed to win three matches for the victory and remain undefeated. Czerwinski, Bentley and Miller helped the Lions thanks to their wins at No. 1, 3, and 5, respectively.

Czerwinski defeated Michelle Colucci 6-3, 6-1 and Bentley followed with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Kate Hugendubler.

Miller, the current AMCC Athlete of the Week, handed Patricia Whelen a 6-2, 6-3 loss to secure the conference win.

Behrend returns to action next Tuesday at Pitt-Bradford. Match begins at 4 p.m.
