Franciscan Defeats Women's Tennis in AMCC Championship Match

MONROEVILLE, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Franciscan defeated No. 2 Penn State Behrend 5-2 in the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships held on Sunday at The Club/Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pa.

The Barons, who defeated the Lions during the regular season with a close 5-4 score, came out and won two doubles and three singles matches to be crowned the AMCC Champions.

Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) were the lone doubles winners for Behrend at the No. 1 spot, picking up an 8-4 victory against Maria Binette and Claire Haddad.

Madelyn Conrad avenged a loss during the regular season at No. 1 singles and managed to pull out the win today against Czerwinski, 6-3, 6-4.

Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) registered the only singles win for the Lions. She handed Maggie Vander Woude a 6-4, 6-1 loss at No. 5. The No. 4 singles match had finished before Binette won the match for Franciscan at No. 2 singles over Cannella (6-2, 7-5).

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Washington & Jefferson. Match begins at 3:30 p.m.
